I spent a long time, day after day, walking the sidewalks of Marseille and elsewhere, making them one of the recurring themes in my work. But my nighttime stroll through Saint-Paul de Vence revealed a new horizon to me, in the texture of the paving stones in its narrow streets, made of pebbles set upright in mortar. The hand of man is visible in every centimeter, in the precision of the gesture, giving this work a truly gigantic dimension.
