The Bodyguards The Bodyguards
The sidewalks of Marseille are lined with metal bollards in perfect alignment. Seen from above, they form a perfect sphere, sometimes irradiated by light. Dimensions: 19.5 cm x 29.5 cm (frame: 30 cm x 40 cm). Created by Wenceslas in 2021 on the theme of "Traces," the title of his exhibition in Marseille in June 2022. NFT 0003

Fire ballFire ball
In Marseille, the metal bollards along the sidewalks oxidize and bear the marks of time. In the light, some take on the color of burning embers. Dimensions: 19.5 cm x 29.5 cm (frame: 30 cm x 40 cm). Created by Wenceslas in 2021 on the theme of sidewalk bollards, protecting pedestrians from vehicles speeding along Rue Breteuil in Marseille.

Gas on every floorGas on every floor
The cast-iron manhole covers of sewers and other conduits for various fluids offer an infinite diversity of shapes and patterns, which Wenceslas deciphers and reassembles in his works. Dimensions: 20.5 cm x 29.5 cm (frame: 30 cm x 40 cm). The sidewalks of Marseille teem, amidst the asphalt, with useful objects such as manhole covers and those housing the gas pipes that heat our homes and warm our meals.

Melody in the basementMelody in the basement
Textures, patterns, marks of time, and sometimes the name of its foundry, make each manhole or gas cover a unique object, which Wenceslas has assembled. Dimensions: 19.5 cm x 29.5 cm (frame: 30 cm × 40 cm). Photocomposition, created from the cast iron plates that supply our apartments and houses with various fluids underground, fluids that make our daily lives so much easier.

SmileySmiley
Amidst ordinary manhole covers or concealing gas pipes, a smile can be discerned upon closer inspection. Dimensions: 20 cm x 30 cm (frame: 30 cm x 40 cm). Created in Marseille in 2021 using manhole covers and gas pipes, some of which have been marked by hand for identification.

les Grands Gardes du Corpsles Grands Gardes du Corps
This photocomposition on Dibond, by virtue of its material and format, constitutes a unique work that reproduces, in "large format," the first work (NFT 0003) created by Wenceslas in 2021, nearly 50 years after his first two photocompositions created in Paris in 1975, but never exhibited in the capital. This print on Dibond is of the first photocomposition created by Wenceslas in 2021 on the theme of "Traces," the title of his exhibition in Marseille in June 2022. A Streetcar Named DesireA Streetcar Named Desire
The last in Wenceslas' trilogy on Marseille tram stations (NFT 146, 147, and 184), this work stands out from the previous two due to its deliberately constructed verticality, marked by the central alignment of beige stones found in the stations depicted in these three photocompositions. Dimensions: 40 cm x 49.5 cm (Frame: 50 cm x 65 cm) - Marseille - November 2024

Created in Marseille in 2021 using cast iron PTT signs, ventilation grilles, and other objects that furnish our sidewalks without us even noticing.

Through the Tram WindowsThrough the Tram Windows
During the summer of 2024, RTM, the company that operates the Marseille tramways, attempted an experimental test to protect the tram carriage windows from the sun, aiming to cool the interior atmosphere and create a bluish ambiance. This experiment was not continued, hence its ephemeral nature. Dimensions: 29.5 cm x 39.5 cm (Frame: 40 cm x 50 cm) - Marseille - August 2024

Dimensions: 29.5 cm x 39.5 cm (Frame: 40 cm x 50 cm) - Marseille - April 2024

Dimensions: 29.50 cm x 39.5 cm (frame: 40 cm x 50 cm). Created in Marseille in 2021 from photographs of sidewalk edges, pedestrian crossings for the visually impaired, and the steel bollards protecting them from cars.

I spent a long time, day after day, walking the sidewalks of Marseille and elsewhere, making them one of the recurring themes in my work. But my nighttime stroll through Saint-Paul de Vence revealed a new horizon to me, in the texture of the paving stones in its narrow streets, made of pebbles set upright in mortar. le Vieil Indienle Vieil Indien
Walking back from the Reformed Church towards the Palais Longchamp, Wenceslas came across this painted mark on the ground again. He had photographed it for the first time and exhibited it in June 2022 at Espace Jouenne, on Rue Montgrand in Marseille, under the title "An Indian in the City" (NFT 0052). Two years later, this mark became "An Indian in Marseille," its emaciated silhouette being the subject of a new snapshot, exhibited in Paris at the end of October 2024 (NFT 0172). Several months later, Wenceslas found the same silhouette again by chance, bent over with age, hence its title "The Old Indian," and marked with red spray paint by a tag signifying its impending disappearance due to the installation of fiber optic cables at the corner of Boulevard Longchamp and Rue Grobet in Marseille. Dimensions: 28.5 cm x 38.5 cm (frame 40 cm x 50 cm) - Marseille - 22. 01. 2025
